Chennai Super Kings are back in action after being in quarantine for one extra week. The yellow army was stormed by a setback as soon after they reached UAE, 13 members of their squad were tested positive for COVID-19. Those who tested positive included Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who were a part of the CSK squad. Now, the Indian Premier League is just 11 days away from kicking off and the team looks all set for the showpiece event.

The excitement for the upcoming season is on an all-time high as the fans will be able to see ‘Thala’, Mahendra Singh Dhoni back in action. The wicket-keeper last played for India in World Cup 2019 and after being on sabbatical for more than a year, he announced his retirement on 15th August 2020. However, the Ranchi stalwart looked in his signature witty style, when he came back to the ground for CSK’s practice session.

Shardul Thakur, the seamer was also seen in action along with Shane Watson and Ravindra Jadeja in a video posted by CSK’s Twitter handle. However, Dhoni stole the spotlight yet again with his humorous comment. Unleashing his amusing side, Dhoni took a dig at one of the batsmen as he said: “DRS nahi lenge, chinta mat car (you won’t worry as they won’t take the DRS).”

CSK’s Playing XI miseries

The stumper is the leader of the CSK contingent and the skipper looked quite motivated and in the perfect mood even when CSK is dealing with a lot of issues. After the positive COVID tests, Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh opted out of the tournament citing ‘personal reasons’. The Chennai franchise needs to alter their combination for the first clash which looked quite settled before reaching there

To find a replacement for Suresh Raina, the vice-captain and the most successful batsman of IPL on number 3 would very difficult. Also, Harbhajan Singh’s experience has been a great asset for the Chennai side and he has also left a void to be filled. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the youngster Piyush Chawla, the wrist-spinner look like an ideal replacement for Raina and Bhajji respectively. Though, those seem big boots to be filled.

Chennai will be playing their first game against Mumbai Indian at Abu Dhabi on 19th September. Notably, Chennai is the second most successful franchise of IPL history, right behind Mumbai who have won it 4 times, 1 more than CSK.
