Indian team registered their maiden T20I series win in New Zealand and only the second over the Kiwis overall. The third T20I was played at the Seddon Park in Hamilton and turned out to be a nailbiter in the end, which went right to the super over. Unfortunately, New Zealand’s poor luck in such situations continued here as well.
Virat Kohli and his men batted first after losing the toss and after two failures in previous matches, star opener Rohit Sharma came into his own and slammed a quick-fire half-century and along with contributions from KL Rahul (27) and Kohli (38) took India to a defendable total of 179/5. His other starring role came in the super over and this gave a condom company opportunity to flex their creative muscles in their latest advert celebrating the Indian team’s victory.
It was India’s first-ever Super Over in T20Is
Personal hygiene products makers Durex, known for their condoms and for being extremely witty in their advertisements, came up with a new punchline to promote their new product and used Rohit Sharma for the same. Rohit had hit two sixes off the last two balls of the super over, bowled by Tim Southee, to take India past New Zealand’s Super Over score of 17 runs and Durex used his exploits for the same, asking users to climax how Rohit ended the match.
Durex used their wittiness and posted a tweet captioned, “Taking the game to new heights with 2x pleasure! #NZvsIND #Hitman”. It was India’s first-ever super over in T20Is and with this win, they became the second Asian side to beat New Zealand in T20I series in their own backyard.

Talking about the victory, he gave credit to Mohammed Shami, for tying the match despite being hit for a six the first ball of the final over, defending nine runs. He said that it was his final over which got India the victory and not the two sixes hit by him. Kane Williamson had played an amazing knock of 95 runs in 48 balls with 6 sixes to his name, before getting out in the final over, when two runs were needed.
