The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to suspend the captain of Essex Ryan Ten Doeschate for two matches. He was found guilty under level 1 offence and was penalised under the ECB’s Fixed Penalty Directives. He won’t be a part of a play-off match of the One-Day Cup of the team against Yorkshire and either the semi-final of the tournament or the next County game against Nottinghamshire.

Ten Doeschate was reported by the on-field umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Steve O’Shaughnessy for breaching the code of conduct of ECB during the County game against Lancashire. This is not the first time that he has been reported for such an offence and was handed over with three penalty points bringing him to a total of nine penalty points which is a threshold for an automatic suspension.

The Cricket Liaison Officer, Tony Pigott, charged him for breaching the Level 1 Directives of ECB’s Code of Conduct (wilfully mistreating any part of the cricket ground, equipment or implements used in the match, and using language that in the circumstances, is obscene, offensive or insulting) according to the statement released by Essex Cricket.

What about the match?

As far as the match between Essex and Lancashire is concerned, the visitors won the game by five wickets. James Porter and Simon Harmer bowled exceptionally well in the second innings to skittle the home side for just 105 runs on the final day of the game. The meagre chase of 105 was not easy though as it took the efforts of Ravi Bopara and the skipper Ten Doeschate to take them home.

Earlier, on the third day, the game was stopped for a unique reason as the chopper landed on the field in order to help the spectator who was feeling ill during the first session.
