European Cricket Series is currently in progress in Stockholm as the sport is slowly returning normalcy amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Though international cricket is fairly close to three weeks away from resuming, a plethora of T10 leagues are being played and European Cricket is leading the way. However, an incident during the match between Alby Zalmi CC and Stockholm CC on Thursday raised serious questions over the tournament.

During the second innings, a player from Alby Zalmi CC, who were chasing 56 runs, was spotted talking to someone on his mobile. The picture went viral on social media in no time and many questioned mobile phone’s usage during the match which is against the ICC rules and regulations. However, European Cricket took note of the incident and officially warned the player for breaching code of conduct.

We are committed to growing the game, says European Cricket

They posted a series of tweets on their official Twitter handle and gave an ‘integrity’ update to the fans. European Cricket cleared that they will not be tolerating such behaviour at all and the action has been taken accordingly. Moreover, the tweet also stated that these regulations are new for the players and European Cricket is educating them as and when possible.

“Integrity Update: Today we gave an official warning to a player and team which breached the code of conduct in the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) with a player’s use of a mobile phone while his team was batting. We will not tolerate such behaviour. Immediate action was taken with regards to the use of the phone which contravenes the measures that were taken before the event had taken place.

“These are new regulations for many of these players and we will continue to educate all players and match officials taking part to learn and understand the standards that are expected of them when playing in broadcasted cricket events. We are fully committed to growing the game and upholding its integrity,” the series of tweets read.

Meanwhile, the semi-finals and final of the tournament are set to be played on Friday. Kista Cricket Club and Sigutna Cricket Club will be facing each other in the first SF while Pakistanska Foreningen will lock horns with Alby Zalmi CC in the other.
