Former India captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) chief, Sourav Ganguly said that the Eden Gardens pitch won’t turn from day one considering the amount of moisture content in the wicket.

The moisture at the wicket will offer some kind of support for the pacers and it will take some time to aid the spinners in the second Test.

“It won’t turn from day one. This is the first match of the season on this wicket. There’s moisture still left on the pitch so it will depend on the amount of the sunshine it gets. But there will be spin as the match progresses,” Ganguly said.

There is also a rain threat after the India Meteorological Department forecasted thundershowers and storms on the first four days of the match, which might force the match to end in a draw.

The second Test match is subjected to be played in an untested wicket, but the curator Sujan Mukherjee claimed that there is nothing to worried of as the pitch is in good condition.

“The wicket is in good condition. We just need some sunshine to prepare the wicket through rolling. The grass has been trimmed,” Mukherjee said.

“This will not be the first time we will have to go through this sort of a situation. The Test in Kanpur is also being played on a fresh wicket. But I can assure you our wicket will be better than the one at Green Park,” he added.

India has won the first Test match against New Zealand in Kanpur by 197 runs and India will be looking forward to winning the match and take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The second Test match at Kolkata will also be India’s 250th Test match at home.
