She must have waited for ages in anticipation of this day. Reminding of India’s own Charulata Patel, an elderly English woman was left in disbelief when Martin Guptill was run out by England wicket-keeper Jos Buttler in the nail-biting Super Over in the final of the ICC World Cup 2019 at Lord’s. The match had gone into the Super Over as both the teams finished with equal totals after the 100-over match and it was the same outcome after the two extra overs of play as well Super Over and eventually, England were determined winners by the virtue of hitting more boundaries.

The old woman though had little idea about how his country won its maiden World Cup in cricket. Sitting in the comfort of her drawing room and watching the title clash taking place at Lord’s on television, she was intensely following and praying for an England win. One of her naughty relatives was busy recording her funny gestures as she cheered and celebrated and finally when Guptill was run out, she couldn’t hold herself back.

“He’s out. He’s out. Have we won? I know he’s out!” she said hysterically, clapping and cheering. And as the commentator declared that England were the winners, she screamed: “We’ve won!” She was embraced by a boy, probably her grandson. The old woman’s celebration became an Internet sensation after it was posted on Twitter.

Here is the video of her celebration:

Charulata Patel also supported India likewise in this World Cup

During the World Cup, an 87-year-old woman named Charulata also made the headlines after she appeared in India colours to cheer her team against Bangladesh at Edgbaston on July 2. The octogenarian’s energy level had impressed all and even India captain Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma had gone to meet her after India won the match and sought her blessings. Kohli even arranged for tickets for the elderly woman to watch India’s next game which was against Sri Lanka in Leeds on July 6.

It was known that Charulata had been watching the World Cup since 1975 when the tournament was first staged and the venue was England as well. The woman in the latest video must also has been wanting England’s win in the quadrennial event, something that had remained elusive for them till July 14.
