The Pakistan Cricket Team has from time to time proved that they are the most unpredictable team in the cricketing world. They can be the world beater one day and the in the next game might surrender like minnows. The recent tour of England can be an apt example of it.

They played like a bunch of tough boys and successfully thwarted the English challenge by leveling the Test series and becoming the No.1 in the rankings. A few days later, a very different side of the team was on display. They flunked in the ODIs like amateurs lost the series 1-4series and dropped to No.9 in the ODI ranking.

The team is now virtually in danger of missing out the upcoming Champions Trophy tournament if they do not break into top 8 by September end next year. They will have to play the qualifiers for 2019 World Cup.

This pathetic situation has made fans and former cricketers quite vocal. In an interview with PakPassion.net, Wasim Akram said it is embarrassing to see Pakistan ODI team languish at the bottom of the table.

“It’s totally embarrassing that we are now just one place above Afghanistan and it looks like for the first time in our history we will have to play in the qualifiers for the next World Cup,” said Akram.

Asked what was troubling ODI team, while the Test team is making waves, Akram answered the 50-overs team is not getting their basics right.

“We are not getting the basics right in our ODI cricket and obvious things like the batting order are being messed up. We need to give our players an opportunity and really invest in them,” Akram advised.

The Pakistan legend also spoke about the troubles the board is facing and that’s hurting the cricket team. “At the moment, Pakistan cricket is in a state of shambles with no continuity and no planning and constant changes to the system,” he said.

“What is needed to get things running properly in Pakistan cricket is for a former player to be running things. PCB makes a lot of money from international cricket and Pakistan Super League. A guaranteed percentage of those profits should be invested in domestic cricket instead of letting it rot,” he said.
