England cricketers Haseeb Hameed and Dominic Sibley were involved in a comical incident on the field of play during the ongoing Lord’s Test against India. Sam Curran bowled a wide delivery outside the off-stump and Virat Kohli leaned forward to play the cover drive. Instead of leaving the ball outside the off-stump, the batter went for the expansive shot through the off-side.
However, he didn’t get enough timing for the ball to go over the ropes. Both Sibley and Hameed ran after the ball with all their might. To evade a nasty collision, both of them backed off thinking that the other fielder would dive. On realising that they had slowed down, they dived together. The cameras didn’t take time to capture them making the dives near the boundary.
Harsha Bhogle reacts to Haseeb Hameed, Dom Sibley’s dive
In the meantime, the 32-year-old Kohli took three runs with KL Rahul as his batting partner. Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle also made a hilarious reaction to the diving efforts from Hameed and Sibley. He said, “I think Haseeb Hameed’s was ‘I’m getting away from the ball kind of dive’ while Dom Sibley’s was ‘towards the ball kind of dive’.”

At the end of the first day’s play, India seemed to have the upper hand as they notched 276 for the loss of three wickets in their 90 overs. Rohit Sharma looked good for his 83-run knock before James Anderson ran through his defence. The batter also missed out on his maiden overseas Test ton.
Thereafter, Anderson also got rid of Cheteshwar Pujara, who failed to handle a moving ball outside the off-stump. From there on, Rahul and skipper Kohli stitched together a 117-run stand for the third wicket. The duo, well and truly, managed to put the visiting team in the driver’s seat.
Rahul was incredible, to say the least. He stayed not out on 127 runs off 248 balls with the help of 12 fours and one six. Once Rohit got out, Rahul started playing his strokes without any fears. By the close of play on Day one, Rahul and Ajinkya Rahane were the overnight batters and have a big task at hand.
