ENG vs IND: Indian players received mixed messages on WhatsApp group ahead of Manchester Test

The final Test match between India and England got cancelled due to the COVID-19 scare in the camp. It was already known that Ravi Shastri has tested positive for COVID-19 and later one more staff member of the visiting camp returned positive results. It was earlier reported that the Manchester game will be pushed forward but BCCI also had to take into consideration the beginning of the UAE leg of IPL 2021.

It has to be noted that after the four matches, India was up 2-1 in the series and was keen on taking away the series in a full-fledged manner in Manchester. However, things quite didn’t go their way and to further avoid the spread of the virus, the final Test got cancelled. “Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team. We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many,” read a statement by ECB.

Indian players receive mixed messages in their Whatsapp group

Ahead of the Manchester game, the players of the India team also received some mixed kinds of messages on their Whatsapp group where they were asked to stay in their rooms only. They were also informed that the match has been called off. Later, they were told that their breakfast is not being able to get arranged in their rooms, and hence, they can move out t0 the restaurant area for their meals.

The Oval contest was won by India by a huge margin of 157 runs where Rohit Sharma’s century played a crucial role and he was declared as the player of the match. Umesh Yadav picked the maximum wickets for India.

“The match has been called off. It’s impt that each one of you stay in your room,” read a message on the team’s Whatsapp group as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

“We are unable to arrange breakfast in your room so if you want you can go to the restaurant to have your meal,” the second messaged popped up within 10 minutes.
