Former England fast bowler Darren Gough has gone on to state that England has a chance to win the World T20 2016 in India.
Darren Gough was the backbone of the England bowling attack through the 90’s. In spite of not having the longest of careers, Gough picked up 229 wickets in t58 Tests played. He made a successful debut in 1994/95 Ashes down under as he picked up a historic hat-trick in the Sydney Test. He also performed well against the likes of the West Indies, Sri Lanka and Pakistan, thus establishing himself as the spearhead of the England bowling attack.
However, a horrible knee injury to Gough would mean that he would not only miss the World Cup but also put an end to his career. He finished off his ODI career with a massive 235 wickets. He is currently participating in the ongoing Masters Champions League in Dubai.
“England have won the T20 World Cup (in 2010) before don’t forget that. They have got better players now like (Alex) Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan, (James) Taylor and (Ben) Stokes. It’s a young lot and the way some of them are playing in South Africa, it will only boost their confidence when they play in India. With the bat they are really dangerous, but with the ball there’s still room for improvement,” Gough said in an exclusive chat to TOI.
Darren Gough conceded that India is favourites to clinch the World T20 2016, but also mentioned that Australia and England posed a serious threat to the hosts. The World T20 2016 is expected to kick off on the 8th of March.
