England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), on Tuesday, announced the England Lions squad for the limited-overs and unofficial Test series in India early next year. The selectors have recalled Ben Duckett whose last international assignment had ended in a controversial manner. The left-handed batsman was sent home from Australia after pouring a drink over James Anderson during the 2017-18 Ashes.

Duckett has so far represented the senior England team in four Tests and three ODIs with all the games coming in 2016. He recently left Northants for Nottinghamshire. The southpaw has been scoring ample amount of runs in recent times. He finished the Mzansi Super League as the second-highest run-scorer for Nelson Mandela Bay Giants.

ECB have also handed maiden calls to three players  – Nottinghamshire duo allrounder Zak Chappell and offspinner Matthew and Lancashire seamer Tom Bailey. Bailey had a sensational outing in the this year’s Division One Championship, finishing the competition as the top wicket-taker.

England Lions’ last assignment was against Pakistan in UAE which ended earlier this month. It was a mixed series for the English cricketers as they lost the 50-overs series 3-2 and the one-off Test before claiming the T20s 2-0. Of the players on that tour, only Nick Gubbins, Liam Livingstone and Mark Wood have not been named in the squads for India tour.

India A will also host Lions for five one-day games at home. All the matches will be played in Thiruvananthapuram between January 23-31. It will be followed by two unofficial Tests in Wayanad, starting on February 7 and 13.
