England fast bowler Jamie Overton is ruled out of the Test series against South Africa and The Hundred as he suffered a foot and hand injury. He sustained the injuries during a County Championship game between Surrey and Warwickshire last week. He is expected to be out of action for at least six weeks.

England will take on South Africa for three Test matches, starting on August 17 and The Hundred is set to begin on August 3, Wednesday. And Essex all-rounder Paul Walter has been named as the replacement for Overton at Manchester Originals for the second edition of the competition.

Overton could return for the conclusion of the County Championship

The England pacer believes he is going to return to Surrey for the conclusion of the County Championship. Surrey are currently at the top of the County Championship Division One table with seven wins, four draws and 209 points in 11 games. They have also won four of their last five games and will take on Northants in Northampton on September 12.

Sussex went on to win the match against Warwickshire by six wickets at The Oval on July 28, chasing a target of 248, and Overton bagged two wickets and scored 38 runs. The 28-year-old has played 86 first-class matches and has picked up 217 wickets at an average of 30.80. He also has scored 2,093 runs at an average of 21.80 with 12 fifties and a century.

Overton made his England debut on June 23 against New Zealand at Leeds in a Test match, and picked up two wickets and scored 97 runs. He shared a vital partnership of 241 runs with Jonny Bairstow and prevented England from a possible collapse. England went on to win the match by seven wickets, chasing a target of 296. They also completed a 3-0 whitewash over the Kiwis.

Overton was, later on, dropped for the rescheduled fifth Test match against India in Edgbaston, Birmingham. England will tour Australia in October, ahead of the T20I World Cup later in the month.
