England have been a brute force in the ODI format and are currently the number one ranked team. They last played India in the three-match series and went on to win it 2-1 after losing the first match at Old Trafford in Manchester. The Three Lions are next scheduled to lock horns with Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series, starting October 10 in Dambulla.

In the meantime, Morgan, the English limited-overs skipper, mentioned that his team has made a significant progress in the last three years after the 2015 World Cup debacle in Down Under. However, he also reckons the Brits still have a fair distance to travel.

We will let players adjust to the situations- Chandimal

“We still have a long way to go. It’s taken us three and a half years to get to where we are, but I think we’re getting to the most important part of what we’ve been planning towards,” Morgan was quoted as saying in Times Now.

Sri Lanka, on the contrary, haven’t had the best of times recently. The team lost the five-match ODI series against South Africa 2-3 despite winning the last two matches. Thereafter, they had a rather forgettable campaign in the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates, where they bowed out of the event after losses to Bangladesh and Afghanistan in the Group phase.

Thereafter, the management sacked Angelo Mathews as the skipper and passed the baton to Dinesh Chandimal. The newly-appointed captained talked about Lanka’s plans going into the future. “We have been trying to figure out where we have got things wrong. We have an idea now. We will let players adjust to the situations,” Chandimal mentioned.

The World Cup in England and Wales is scheduled to start on May 30 next year and the Lankans have a lot to ponder about ahead of the mega event. On the other hand, the Poms have a fairly settled team and would want to get a few wins under their belt going into the World Cup.
