Team England is all set to take on South Africa in the third and final ODI of the short ODI series. England currently lead the series with an unassailable lead of 2-0. Ahead of the final ODI, the team management has announced three major replacements for the game. Three of the key players of the English side will be rested for the fixture. Whether the injury concerns of these players is severe or not, is yet to be ascertained.

All-rounder Moeen Ali, who scored a brisk fifty in the first ODI of the series, has been rested after suffering a groin injury. Hard-hitting all-rounder Ben Stokes was seen struggling after the first ODI. He was not given his complete quota of overs in the game after he was seen in discomfort during the match. In the next game, he passed the fitness tests to be a part of the playing eleven.

Stokes plundered a thunderous 101 in the match to help England post a sizeable 330/6 on the board which turned out to be a winning total. Stokes, however, later confirmed that he is struggling with his knee. He will be rested for the third ODI due to the knee problem. Pace bowler Chris Woakes is the third player to be missing out on the game. Woakes will be rested after having concerns over his thigh.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news with the announcement on the social media. They wrote, “Moeen Ali (groin), Ben Stokes (knee) and Chris Woakes (thigh) will all be rested at Lord’s ahead of the start of the #CT17 on Thursday.”

And the replacements

In another tweet, they named three replacements for the injured players. Steve Finn will be brought back to the ODI setup. Liam Dawson, who was seen during the England tour of India, will be back in English colors too. Toby Roland-Jones, the young Middlesex pace bowler has also been named in the side. The ECB tweeted, “Steven Finn, Toby Roland-Jones and Liam Dawson have been called up to the squad for tomorrow’s final ODI against South Africa #ENGvSA”
