India tightened their grip in the Trent Bridge Test match as they posted 352/7 in their 2nd innings to set a target of 521 in front of the hosts. Skipper Virat Kohli scored his 2nd century of the series scoring 103 before getting out to Chris Woakes. Cheteshwar Pujara (72) and Hardik Pandya (52*) scored fifties to help India to gain a big lead. England scored 23 runs for the loss of no wickets in the nine overs of play possible towards the end.

4 – Only the 4th time India have made 300+ total in both the innings of a Test match in England. Three of those four instances have come at the Trent Bridge (2002, 2014 and 2018). India also made 300+ totals in both innings of the Manchester Test in 1990.

4 – India had fifty-plus partnerships for each of their first four wickets in the 2nd innings. This is only the 3rd time India had four 50+ stands in a Test innings outside Asia. India had fifty-plus stands for the first four wickets in the 4th innings of the 1976 Test match and in the 3rd innings of the 1983 Test match in Port of Spain against Windies.

This is overall the 13th time where India had fifty-plus stands for first four wickets in an innings with the last one coming in the Mumbai Test in 2011 against Windies.

521 – The 521-run target is the 3rd highest India have set in the Test cricket against any opposition. They set a target of 617 runs against New Zealand in the 2009 Wellington Test. India set a target of 550 runs to Sri Lanka in the last year’s Test match in Galle.

521 – The target of 521 is the 5th highest any team has set in the 4th innings against England in England. This is also the highest target set by any team against England in England since the 552 by Windies in the Manchester Test in 1976.

2007 – The last instance of India’s top four scoring 30s in a Test innings outside Asia was back in 2007 at the Oval Test. The Indian 2nd innings could have been the first instance in five years where top five made 30s in the same Test innings had Ajinkya Rahane scored one more run.
