At the age of 37, a number of players would either have retired or contemplated the same. The reflexes slow down and one isn’t a spring-chicken as he/she used to be in the heydays. The body isn’t able to cope with the dynamics of the sport and the opponents tend to take advantage of the same. Maintaining top-level fitness also becomes an ardent task. MS Dhoni’s journey is a tad different though.

He is amongst the fittest members of the team. Albeit, he isn’t the livewire he used to be even a couple of years ago, his devotion for the sport hasn’t diminished by any stretch of the imagination. He inflicted a stupendous run-out, which many wouldn’t have been able to pull off at Dhoni’s age. During England’s run-chase, Jonny Bairstow and James Vince took their team off to a blistering start.

Dhoni weaves his magic again

The Men in Blue weren’t defending an overly daunting target and hence, wickets at regular intervals were paramount for them. Apart from the bowlers, the fielders also needed to step up. The partnership of 31 runs between Vince and Joe Root, England’s Test skipper, threatened to take the match away from the visitors. The incident took place in the first ball of the tenth over, the last over of the mandatory power-play.

Yuzvendra Chahal dished out a back-of-a-length delivery and Vince was quick to spot it. He went on to the back-foot, nudged the leather on the leg side and scampered for the single. Hardik Pandya is known for his agility and he speared in the ball in with the blink of an eye. However, the throw wasn’t an accurate one and Dhoni had to collect it on the full and then take off the bails.

The wicketkeeper realised that he can’t afford to get both hands to the ball. Dhoni is known for his fast reflexes, which was again on show. He collected the balls and whipped off the bails. He wasn’t balanced while performing the act. Vince tried to sneak in his willow across the crease. The decision went upstairs and the batsman was caught millimeters short of his crease.
