Trent Bridge Test has started positively for Team India after they were invited to bat first by Joe Root. It seems that the hosts read the pitch wrong as it is very slow and it will be tough to bat fourth later in the game. The visitors though were anyway looking to bat first and showed intent from the word go. They batted well and ended up with the score of 307/6 on the first day. Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has also loved the way the batsmen applied themselves and has backed them to continue the good work.

The stars of the day were Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane who forged a partnership of 159 runs when the team was in trouble after losing three wickets in the first session. They played the situation perfectly and rotated the strike without giving any chances to the opposition. Rishabh Pant also hogged the limelight as he got off the mark in Test cricket with a superb six and then showed the composure to play out the day.

Tendulkar wants Pant to lay the platform

Sachin Tendulkar liked the way the 20-year-old debutant batted positively and felt that he will be the key for the Indian team on the second day. Kohli’s men should look to bat as long as they can and post a mammoth first innings total and put pressure on the hosts.

Sachin praised the captain and the vice-captain of the team also as he perfectly analysed the first day’s play at Trent Bridge. “What I liked in this innings was the intent shown by our batsmen and the front foot defence against the English pacers was solid. Wonderful partnership by @imVkohli and @ajinkyarahane88. @RishabPant777 should continue being positive and set the platform. #ENGvIND,” he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Ravi Ashwin and Pant will resume on the Sunday for India as they will look to carry on in the same way, while England bowlers would be under the pump a bit to clean up the lower order early in the morning.
