Pakistan continues to search for their first success on the tour of England as the hosts chased down a target of 196 on Sunday to take 1-0 lead in the T20I series. Fifties from Mohammad Hafeez (69 off 36) and Babar Azam (56) guided the home team to finish on 195/4. Jonny Bairstow and Tom Banton gave a perfect start to the chase with a 65-run powerplay. Later, Eoin Morgan took the charge with a 33-ball 66, batting alongside Dawid Malan (54*). The duo put on 112 runs for the 3rd wicket in only 10.2 overs as England completed the chase with five wickets and five balls to spare.

Here are all the statistical highlights from England’s record chase in Manchester:

A record chase for England:

196 – The 196-run chase by England on Sunday is the highest successful chase in T20I cricket for any team against Pakistan. The previous highest successful T20I chase against Pakistan was 192 by Australia during the 2010 WT20 semi-final.

196 – England’s 196-run chase is now their 3rd highest successful chase in T20Is and the highest in this format at home. Their previous highest successful chase in a home T20I was 174 during the 2019 Cardiff T20I also against Pakistan. India’s 199-run chase in 2018 Bristol T20I is the only successful chase higher than England’s 196 on English soil.


Morgan climbs up the charts:

9 – Number of fifty-plus scores for Eoin Morgan as England skipper in T20Is; the joint-most number of 50+ scores for any captain in Men’s T20I cricket. Kane Williamson also has nine fifties as NZ skipper in this format.

8 – Morgan’s eight out of nine T20I fifties as captain came in the winning cause. These are the most 50+ scores in winning cause for a skipper in men’s T20Is surpassing Rohit Sharma’s seven (2 100s; 5 50s).

6 – Eoin Morgan has been player of the match in as many as six T20I matches; the most for any captain in Men’s T20I cricket. Morgan went past Mohammad Hafeez who had five player of the match awards as Pakistan captain in T20Is.


Hafeez’s record:

1 – Mohammad Hafeez became the first player in Men’s T20I cricket (2061 runs and 54 wickets) to complete the all-round double of 2000+ runs and 50+ wickets. Stafanie Taylor, Sophie Devine, and Deandra Dottin achieved this double in women’s T20I cricket.

2061 – Mohammad Hafeez became only the 2nd player in Men’s T20I cricket to amass 2000+ runs for Pakistan. Shoaib Malik was the first to the milestone and has scored 2323 runs till date.


Both captains star with the bat:

2 – The Manchester T20I is only the 2nd Men’s T20I on England soil where both the captains scored 50+ runs. The other such instance came during the 2015 Cardiff T20I between England and Australia. Overall, this was the 11th T20I match in Men’s cricket where both skippers struck fifties.
