With the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 slated to take place later this year in India, all the participating teams have arranged several white-ball fixtures to prepare for the gala tournament. For the same, England will host Sri Lanka in three T20Is and as many ODIs, commencing on June 23. The Three Lions have been exceptional in limited-overs cricket since the last few years and will subsequently start the series as favourites.

On the contrary, Sri Lankan team has been struggling across formats lately and it would be interesting to see how they tackle the England challenge. Not having a stable side has been a major problem for them as the selectors tend to make many changes after every series. Nevertheless, the side still has some talented players who could surprise Eoin Morgan and his men.

England vs Sri Lanka Team News

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a strong 16-man squad for the T20I series with most of the first-choice players in the camp. Skipper Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and Sam Curran are proven T20 stars, and many eyes will be on them. At the same time, the likes of Chris Woakes, David Willey, and Liam Dawson have been called back in the side, and they’ll have a point to prove.

In Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer’s absence, the home team will indeed miss some prominent names due to injuries. However, the side still looks pretty balanced on paper and would be raring to register another series win. Notably, England are currently the top-ranked T20I team and any surprise in this series could have an impact on their pinnacle position.

Speaking of Sri Lanka, not many are backing them to upset England as they would take the field with an inexperienced line-up. Skipper Kusal Perera will have to lead from the front while Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva need to provide him substantial support.

Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga were impressive in Sri Lanka’s last white-ball assignment against Bangladesh, and the spotlight will also be on them. The visiting side certainly has not much to show on the paper. However, Sri Lanka might possess a significant threat if they perform as a unit. Hence, England can’t afford to be too complacent in this series.
