England’s Danielle Wyatt has been consistently making news over the past few months – be it for her 100 off 56 balls in England‘s chase of 179 in the women Ashes final – which was also the first T20I century by an England women cricketer, or her tweets for Indian captain Virat Kohli. The almost 27-year-old, who has played 53 ODIs and 73 T20Is for England, has never hesitated to show her love for Kohli, who she once asked out via her twitter handle.

The die-hard Virat Kohli fan

For the uninitiated, the batswoman in 2014, on having watched Kohli score 72 in the WT20 against South Africa, took to Twitter with a proposal for the captain – “Kohli, marry me!” it read. Minutes after the tweet, Wyatt’s tweet was retweeted and liked by hundreds of people, and it became a national news in India. She had later also taken to Twitter to congratulate Kohli on his wedding.

“I picked my phone up and I’ve got 1000s of favorites and retweets, it’s all over Indian news, they’re emailing my dad at home. When we met, he said to me: ‘You can’t do things like that on Twitter! They take things seriously!’ I was like, ‘okay. Sorry!’, she was quoted as recalling by ESPN Cricinfo.

However, aware of Wyatt’s craze for him, Kohli gifted her one of his own bats – which she intends to use in a T20 tri-series (involving India and Australia) later this month. She explained that the lucky bat with which she scored a century in November broke, which is why she will be using a new one in the upcoming tri-series.

“The bat I hit the century with broke not long ago. So now I’ll be using Virat’s.”

In 53 ODIs, the batter has scored 602 runs, while in the shortest format, she has 657 runs in 73 games.
