July 23, 2017- A memorable day for the England’s women team that won the World Cup beating India in the final at the iconic Lord’s. Apart from the historic moment, the day was also special for two of their players- Natalie Sciver and Katherine Brunt. After living under the same roof for four years, one member of the house gathered the courage to express her love to another.
On New Year’s Eve last year, Brunt gathered the courage to ask Sciver and the response came as ‘Yes’. On Friday, the couple announced their engagement. It also happens to be the National Coming Out Day, an annual LGBT awareness day. Brunt doesn’t regret the decision and said that it was Sciver, who wished to take their relation to a new level after living under the same roof.
“She was madly in love with me!” But I was constantly putting her at arm’s length because I didn’t think it was professional and I didn’t want to stuff up our friendship,” Brunt, the English fast bowler, was quoted as saying in The Guardian.
My parents are different to Natalie’s, says Brunt
It wasn’t easy for Brunt by any means. She had to fight it out to talk about her relation with Sciver to her parents. However, she also understands the importance of living life on her own terms and being herself. Brunt also acknowledged her parents and said that they will always be there for her.
“My parents are different to Natalie’s. They are quite Christian so it is not something that is done and that’s why it has held me back. They don’t believe in the way I choose to live my life, basically, so it has been quite difficult,” Brunt added.
For Sciver, the all-rounder, the pressure wasn’t much as compared to Brunt. But the 27-year-old reckons that the same will add to her confidence. “There is still something holding me back a little bit in everyday life. Subconsciously, there is a reason why I might put my hand in my pocket or avoid conversations about my relationships,” Sciver mentioned.
The duo has supported each other thoroughly. During last year’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies, Brunt’s back had given up and she was crying in pain. It was then that Sciver comforted her at night.
As far as their engagement is concerned, Sciver uploaded three adorable pictures on Instagram. She captioned the pictures and wrote, “Welcome to our wine and magazine party #ISaidYes #Mrs&Mrs #Bridesmaids,”
