Lancashire and England batsman Haseeb Hameed, who impressed one and all with his performance against India on his debut series before injuring his hand, is under the radar of the English Cricket team yet again, according to assistant coach Paul Farbrace. After recovering from his injury, Hameed had a forgetful First-Class season as he did not even manage to score even a single half century.

As a result, England had to go with Keaton Jennings for the South African series. Jennings has been unimpressive until now with scores of 8,33,0,3,0,48, 17 and at an average only 15.57 in the series. However, Haseeb Hameed was seen netting with England batting coach Mark Ramprakarsh at Old Trafford during the first day of the Fourth Test match yesterday. Hameed is scheduled to play for Lancashire in their County Championship match against Hampshire at Southampton, which starts on Sunday, and would keep an eye on the opening slot for the three-Test series against West Indies.

With the fourth Test taking place at Hameed’s home ground of Old Trafford, Farbrace added it was an opportunity to ‘keep him in the fold’.”We want him to score runs and push to get back in the team. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the Championship game. Ramps has had good contact with him  over the past few weeks. We want him to realise he’s part of the future of the England team.” commented Paul Farbrace according to BBC.

Farbrace on Jennings

“He has found out a lot about himself. There are areas of his game he would want to work on, but there hasn’t been time to take a step back and do that. He’s a very honest young man who works hard. Given the chance to get through this spell, I think he will make a success of international cricket. When you have someone who is driven to be as good as they can be, you want to stick with them.” quoted Farbrace on struggling Keaton Jennings.
