Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has been on a roll. The number one spinner with the ball showed why he is rated as the number one all-rounder as well. Ashwin continued his good form with both bat and ball in the Mohali Test. He managed to get the better off the English skipper Alastair Cook in both the innings.

With 4 wickets across both the innings in the match, he did his job with the ball. When India faced a slight downfall in the first innings, he stood up with the bat. An elegant 72 saw Ashwin resurrecting the Indian innings. In the post-match interaction, he was interviewed alongside Parthiv Patel. Ashwin spoke about various topics in the interaction. Both Patel and Ashwin showered praises on one another during the interaction.

He mentioned that India were in a bit of trouble when they lost 4 wickets in quick succession in their first innings. However, he added that there was a belief in the camp that they could still do well. “We were in a bit of bother on day two but we back ourselves. The lower order backs itself to put on 125 runs every time. We put on a stellar show,” R Ashwin quoted.

He also specifically mentioned Ravindra Jadeja to be the key man with the ball. He cited how Jadeja created pressure situations that yielded the wickets for the Indian team. “We got the wickets because of the pressure. Special mention needs to go to Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja). The wicket wasn’t doing much, he kept bowling those boring areas,” he quoted.

In the second innings, Ashwin bowled Alastair Cook with a beauty. However, he loved the wicket of Moeen Ali more. He outdid the brain of Moeen Ali and got him caught at mid-on. “I enjoyed both Cook and Moeen wickets. I knew he (Moeen) would step out, so I slowed it down,” said Ashwin.

Lastly, he joked and had a word of praise for Parthiv Patel. He mocked that the good length balls for every other batsman is a short ball for someone like Patel. “Parthiv plays like this in first-class cricket too. When you drop it short, for us it is good length but for PP it is short,” Ashwin said sheepishly.
