The ongoing break from the busy schedules has allowed the former and current cricketers to pick their best XIs. The trend has continued with England leg-spinner Adil Rashid joining the bandwagon. Interestingly, he didn’t name the format for which he is picking the XI but picked Eoin Morgan to lead the side. This makes it clear that the XI he selected is for the limited-overs format as Morgan hasn’t been playing Tests.
To open the innings, Rashid has gone with Rohit Sharma and David Warner who are two of the best openers going around in international cricket at the moment. While the latter can attack from the word go, Rohit can launch an assault after taking a bit of time early on.
Not surprisingly, India skipper Virat Kohli has been picked to bat at number three. His record at a crucial batting position is impeccable and has won a plethora of matches for his country. Pakistan’s newly minted limited-overs captain Babar Azam will bat at four in Adil Rashid’s World XI which he picked during an interaction with ‘At the Crease TV’. The top four of the team looks solid and on more occasions, they are likely to play out the innings.
Imran Tahir only spinner in the team
The England international then selected the trio of Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler at five, six and seven. These batsmen will definitely look to lift the run-rate in the final few overs. While Stokes offers a valuable bowling option, Buttler is the wicket-keeper too. After stocking as many as seven batsmen in the team, Adil Rashid has picked the strongest possible bowling line-up.
The pace attack of his XI comprises of Mitchell Starc, Trent Boult and Kagiso Rabada. There is no doubt that Starc and Boult will take the new ball with the amount of swing they generate, the South Africa pacer will terrorise the batsmen with his pace. The only spinner in the team is Imran Tahir which is surprising as the leggie isn’t the part of the ODIs anymore and is looking to forward to play the T20 World Cup later this year.
Adil Rashid’s World XI: Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Eoin Morgan (C), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler (WK), Mitchell Starc, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Trent Boult.
