The COVID-19 pandemic continues to wreak havoc without any respite over India, which is suffering from a scary second wave of COVID-19, driven by a new variant that is found to be more infectious and deadly than the previous strain. The numbers suggest a grim picture too, with India consecutively recording over 350,000 cases over the last few days, with nearly 380,000 cases reported on Wednesday (28th April).

The Indian government opted to roll out vaccines to everyone aged 18 or above from May 1, although the nation is reportedly running out of Covid-19 vaccines just as the government had set plans in place for a mass drive. Notably, there have been questions raised over even the conduction of the Indian Premier League, with multiple players and a couple of umpires pulling out mid-way due to different concerns related to the pandemic.

However, in some good bit of news, Australian cricketers Pat Cummins and Brett Lee have made generous contributions to help India battle the pandemic. While Cummins donated 50,000 US Dollars (nearly INR 37 lakhs) to PM Cares Relief Fund for oxygen supplies in India, Lee made a cryptocurrency donation of one Bitcoin (nearly INR 41 lakhs) for the same cause. Taking inspiration from them, the Estonian Cricket Association has come forward, donating INR 1 Lakh in Bitcoins (0.027 BTC).
