Bowling among everything else has to be the toughest trade in T20 cricket. Every passing day the margin of error is only getting smaller. In the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), while some wickets have favoured the bowlers most matches are played on surfaces that make life easier for the batters and thus we see huge totals being scored and chased down. Even the bowler of Australian pacer Andrew Tye’s stature isn’t immune and are thrashed around almost at will.
Tye also expressed his views on the shortest format of the game and said that the best of the bowlers can be taken to cleaners. He is of the opinion that the bowlers should keep their ego aside while bowling in a T20 match. The pacer is known for his variations especially the slower, knuckleball prove tough for most batsmen to read.
Bowlers shouldn’t react emotionally
The 31-year-old bowler while speaking ahead of their match against Rajasthan Royals said that the bowlers should just try to bowl according to their plan in order to stay away from the hammering.
“You can’t take things personally in this format. You will get hit for a six but you can’t react emotionally. The nature of this format is such (you are always at risk of being hammered). You can limit the damage by executing your plans the best you can,” said Tye.
The bowler said that there are always few batters who you have never bowled at and they can always surprise you and added that getting them out is always a challenging task.
“There are always different guys you have not seen and they can surprise you. And there are guys you have seen a lot of but they are so good that you can’t get them out. It is always a challenge,” said the Kings XI Punjab bowler.
The Perth-born Tye also talked about his Punjab teammate Chris Gayle and suggested that bowling to the West Indian in the nets is a better option for him. ”I bowl to Chris (Gayle) in the nets and that is challenging enough,” he added.
Thus far in the IPL, Tye has picked up 12 wickets in 9 games for the Kings XI and the team will want to be at the top of his game in the return fixture against the Royals away from home.
