The initial edition of Pakistan Super League was a huge success. Five franchises fought heads to heads but Islamabad United were the ultimate winners. The second edition of PSL will be played in February and March 2017 in the UAE but PSL Chairman Najam Sethi made a huge announcement that “The final of PSL 2017 will be played in Lahore.” The five franchises were busy last night to pick and finalize their squad for the second edition. What happened in the draft at Abu Dhabi? Crictracker explains everything for its readers.
Picking Order:
Each team was given some time to discuss which player they want to pick and based on that they selected their players. The teams picked the players in this order:
1st pick: Lahore Qalandars
2nd pick: Karachi Kings
3rd pick: Peshawar Zalmi
4th pick: Quetta Gladiators
5th pick: Islamabad United
Salary Cap:
The total salary cap for a squad of 16 is $985,000 and the total cap for a squad of 20 (including the Supplementary category) is $1.1 million.
The salary cap forthe Platinum category is $510,000 with the minimum player salary of $140,000 each player. Each team was allowed to pick three players from this category.
The salary cap for Diamond category is $225,000 with the minimum player salary of $70,000 & a maximum of $85,000. Each team was allowed to pick three players from this category.
The players in Gold category will get $50,000; the players in Silver category will get $25,000 while the players in Emerging category will have a salary cap of $10,000 each player.
Captains:
Shahid Afridi surprisingly handed over Peshawar Zalmi’s captaincy to Darren Sammy. Brendon McCullum will be the Captain of Lahore Qalandars. Sarfraz Ahmed and Misbah-ul-Haq will continue to Captain Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United. Karachi Kings are yet to announce their captain.
