Taking leads from Australia’s Big Bash league (BBL), new and interesting innovations will be introduced in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is all set to take off on April 5. Until now, the umpires officiated wearing cameras during IPL matches, but this time the batsmen will wear cameras on their helmet as well to bring in another angle.

The camera will be attached to the peak of the helmet. The basic idea here is that this will enable the viewers to get as close as possible to the action on the field. It will be thrilling to track a 140kph delivery from the lens placed almost at the batsman’s eye level.

A Hindustan Times report suggested that the IPL outfits have been requested to provide the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) with details of the helmets so that the fabric shrouds can be made in each team’s colour.

The entire unit, battery pack, and camera both will weigh less than 100g and the weight will be distributed evenly front-to-back on the helmet.

Possible rescheduling

Some of the games in this season of the IPL may have to be rescheduled. The Delhi Daredevils’ home game versus Mumbai Indians is on April 22, and it clashes with the Delhi Municipal Elections. The organisers, therefore, are discussing the issue with the Delhi Police. It is reported that they are planning to swap with the away tie on May 6 in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the online sale for Mumbai Indians’ home games has begun already. And the sale for the rest of the games should begin in another ten days, reports suggests.

IPL 2017 had been shrouded by many issues relating to the Lodha Committee recommendations. Rumor had it that the T20 bonanza will not be held this year. But amidst all that, the auction was held pretty smoothly and the league is expected to kick off as scheduled.
