He is not in favour of playing a silent Australia for he thinks it is their ‘in-your-face’ style of playing which is their more authentic game. But South African captain Faf du Plessis also believes that the ‘silent treatment’ could be the Kangaroos’ best ploy against Virat Kohli when the ace batsman take stance against them in a four-Test series starting December 6. India will play three T20Is, four Tests and three ODIs against Australia during the two-month long series.

Du Plessis, whose side recently beat Australia 2-1 in an ODI series in their den, said players like Kohli also love aggression. If Australia refrain from provoking at him, there is a high chance of them capable of preventing him from scoring runs. Kohli has been by far India’s highest scorer in some of their major series played this year. He scored heavily in South Africa during a three-Test series earlier this year and then smashed three hundreds in the ODI series that followed, helping his side thump the Proteas 5-1. He also scored tons of runs in the away Test series against England and also against the Windies at home recently.

There are guys who enjoy confrontation

“There are guys like that in international cricket (who enjoy the confrontation). We feel like that when we play against someone like Virat Kohli. He’s a similar character, he wants to get into the fight. There’s one or two guys in each team around the world that we as a team discuss before playing against them. We’re like, ‘better not say too much to him because you’ll get him going’,” cricket.co.au quoted du Plessis as saying.

“He’s an amazing player. We gave him the silent treatment and he still scored runs in South Africa, but we felt like it was not huge runs – he scored the one hundred there in Centurion when the wicket was slow. So every team will have what they think works – for us, that was silent treatment,” the 34-year-old added.

South Africa are set to wrap up their tour of Australia with the one-off T20I which is scheduled at the Carrara Stadium in Gold Coast, Queensland, on November 17, four days before Kohli’s men take on the hosts in the first of their three T20Is.

In his previous two tours of Australia, Kohli had moments of angry encounters with the local crowd as well as the players which to an extent gave him the kick excel.
