South African skipper Faf du Plessis is likely to make a comeback to the national side soon. As per the recent reports, the veteran batsman is set to be fit for the first ever four-day Test match which will be played between South Africa and Zimbabwe. The Boxing Day Test is surely going to be a historic fixture in many senses.

Faf Du Plessis was recently ruled out of the T20I series against Bangladesh. He suffered an injury during the ODI series against the Asian opponents. His absence will see veteran batsman JP Duminy lead the team in the T20I series. Meanwhile, the injury was also being seen as a serious one considering the fact that the medical officers advised him 6 weeks of recovery time.

However, as per the recent quotes in Times of India, the South African team manager Mohammad Moosajee has hinted that the regular Proteas skipper will be fit for the Boxing Day Test. He mentioned that the rehabilitation period is being speculated to be of 6 weeks.

“Faf consulted with our team of specialists in Cape Town on Monday. Further investigations and assessment have confirmed an acute lumbar disc injury. He will require a period of rest and rehabilitation for the next six weeks. We anticipate him to be ready for the Test match against Zimbabwe in December,” he quoted.

Long home season

The ongoing season for South African cricket is very intense. They are currently hosting Bangladesh for a full tour. Later, they will play a four day Test against Zimbabwe. This will be followed up by a full tour against team India. The men in blue will commence their tour of South Africa in the first week of January 2018. Hence, fitness of key players like Faf du Plessis becomes a prime key for the hosts ahead of the long season.
