South Africa Test captain Faf du Plessis is all set to miss out the two warm-up matches of the Champions Trophy as he is suffering from an injury. Apparently. Du Plessis is the only personal in the Proteas contingent who is carrying an injury.
Faf du Plessis represented the Rising Pune Supergiant in this edition of the IPL. Due to the presence of Steve Smith, Ben Stokes, Daniel Christian and Imran Tahir, Faf was unable to break into the side. As a result, Faf only featured in two games in the IPL.
But du Plessis, being the team-man he is, wouldn’t mind being left out as Rising Pune Supergiant has been on roll this season. Last night Pune confirmed their berth in the IPL finals. Faf left the Supergiant squad early this season citing national duties. As a result of the entire South African contingent in the IPL namely, David Miller, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers and teammate Imran Tahir took the flight back home.
Back to the Present
South Africa have a busy summer ahead, as they face England in 3-ODI series ahead of the Champions Trophy which would be followed by 3 T20I series and 4-match Test series.
“The only guy that is carrying an injury in the 15-man squad is Faf, A plan is in place to have him ready for the first ODI against England,” quoted the Proteas team manager Dr. Mohammed Moosajee to the media.
“We are not sure about the warm-up games yet, we’ll probably assess (his injury) once we get to the UK and take it from there,” the team manager further added.
It is also uncertain that du Plessis will take part in the 1st Test at Lord’s as his wife is expecting a child soon. “I would like to be there for the birth of my first child so hopefully the timing works well with this tour,” said du Plessis
