Former South Africa captain Faf du Plessis has weighed in on the never-ending comparison between Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. The cricketing fraternity has been comparing the two for quite some time now. Kohli has been one of the best in the world from nearly a decade now. The India captain is widely regarded as the best all-format player at present.

His record across formats is just phenomenal. A staggering 70 centuries and 104 fifties across the three formats at an age of just 32 speaks volume of Kohli’s stature. His remarkable consistency has put him heads and shoulders above his contemporaries. At present, the India batting superstar is the only batsman with 50-plus averages in all the three formats.

Babar is also regarded as one of the best especially in the limited-overs format. At just 26, he is already Pakistan’s captain across all the three formats. Babar has been Pakistan’s batting mainstay for a couple of years now. The right-handed batsman has an average of more than 50 in ODIs and T20Is while his Test average is more than 45. He has been showing remarkable consistency with the bat too.

Babar Azam has surprised a lot of people, says Faf du Plessis

Speaking on the much-talked about topic, Faf du Plessis said that he sees similarity between Virat Kohli and Babar. The South Africa star, who is currently in Pakistan for his first stint in the PSL, praised both of them as high-quality players. He also stated that Babar has surprised a lot of people with his batting in the shortest format of the game.

“I do [see similarity between Kohli and Babar]. They are extremely high quality players. Babar, over the last year or so, has taken another step towards becoming one of the greats of the game so he has got an exciting future,” Faf du Plessis told Cricket Pakistan.

“I think he surprised a lot of people with his T20 cricket. People would have originally boxed him as a guy that hasn’t got a lot of power but certainly of late his T20 game has been remarkable,” he added.
