His Twitter introduction reads “*Jesus follower *Husband *Pro cricketer”. Playing for Rising Pune Supergiant, the versatile batsman had scored 206 runs with an average of over 34 in the previous edition of the IPL to set the league on fire. He has been a part of IPL since 2011 and has been performing consistently under Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s captaincy.

But the Supergiant’s team management decided to bring about a chance in captaincy. They made Australian skipper Steve Smith the captain and relieved MS Dhoni from the responsibilities. With the change in captain, Pune’s fortune changed as well, this time in their favour. But since then, the South African batsman has been out of favour in the Supergiant camp.

He has played only a couple of games this time and batted only in one inning. With the introduction of a new captain, a new team combination was introduced and there was no vacancy for du Plessis. Pune will take on their Maharashtrian counterpart Mumbai Indians on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Fans will witness a Maharashtra derby in the final of the tenth edition of the IPL. But Faf is nowhere close to Hyderabad. He is in Northampton training with his South African team-mates for the Champions Trophy 2017 that will commence from 1st of June. The Proteas’ will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka on 3rd June.

Faf wishes luck

But Faf will make time to follow the game. In a recent post on the micro-blogging site Twitter, he wrote, “Good luck Rising Pune Supergiant in tonight’ IPL 10 final. Myself and Imran will be following all the way here from Northampton .”

Imran Tahir, his countrymate, plays for the same franchise in the IPL and both had left along with the rest of the South African contingent to train for the Champions Trophy. Unlike Faf, the leg-spinner played 12 matches this year and picked up 18 wickets.
