Pakistani batsman Faisal Iqbal who will turn 36 later this year, is still hopeful of making a national comeback. He made his last international appearance against Australia almost 8 years ago. He has often been seen blaming political interference for not being able to seal his spot in the team.

Recently in a panel discussion on a Pakistani news channel, he compared himself to former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq. He determined that his statistics were much better than Misbah of 2010. He further went on to tell that like Misbah got a chance and did really well in the following years, he too deserved a place in the team.

“If you remember, during 2010 when Misbah-ul-Haq was brought in as a captain, he was 35 years of age. The decision turned out to be a masterstroke with Misbah excelling for a long period. The difference between me and Misbah from 2010 is that he didn’t have much international or first class experience. If you compare the same with me, I’ve much better than him in both aspects,” Iqbal said.

He further stated that the people who run the cricketing matters need to sit and decide. Stating the example of Raza Hasan who was well prepared for the international exposure, Faisal stated that the administration needed to get rid of their jealousy and disliking for him since every guy was here to play for the country.

The anchor tried to voice in his opinion saying that there had been many cricketers who hadn’t vouched for selection like him and still made it to the team. He further asked if appearing in various programs and shows made a difference.

However, Faisal responded back saying that he had his heads down till 2013. “I’ve never spoken on a public forum till 2013. We were always told to speak with the bat or by runs. But when I saw that my runs were being ignored and things were going in a different direction against me. Once I was removed from the ODI squad, I knew I would’ve to do things in the long run,” he said.

In the video below which is in Urdu, you can see Faisal Iqbal claiming he was better than Misbah of 2010 and why wasn’t he being considered.
