Last year when Ravichandran Ashwin ran out Jos Buttler, who was the non-striker, it caused a massive uproar. The Rajasthan Royals (RR), who were in a winning position, went on to lose that game against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) due to this incident.

There were several debates about the off-spinner’s actions back then. Since then, however, batsmen have been very wary when Ravichandran Ashwin was operating. Most of the times, they hardly get out of the crease while he’s bowling and a ‘Mankading’ incident hasn’t been witnessed.

But in the last year, a lot has changed for Ashwin. KXIP team traded him to the Delhi Capitals (DC). Just before the IPL 2020 season, head coach Ricky Ponting made his intentions clear.

He mentioned that he wouldn’t allow Ashwin to be involved in yet another incident such as that. Then, the 34-year-old also responded that this was well within the ‘Laws of the Game’. Surely, once they reached the United Arab Emirates (UAE), these two might have had a discussion about this.

‘Don’t blame me later on’: Ravichandran Ashwin

In the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Ravichandran Ashwin had an opportunity to run-out Aaron Finch at the non-striker’s end who was backing a little too much. However, to keep up the spirit of the game, he did not run Finch out but instead gave him a warning. Ricky Ponting in the dugout had a very interesting reaction to this and it was later revealed by Ashwin that even Ricky wanted Aaron Finch run-out.

However, as soon as this match ended, Ravichandran Ashwin had an interesting response. He wrote on the micro-blogging site that he wanted to make it clear that this is the first and the final warning of 2020. He also mentioned that he’s making it official.

Thus, he asked everyone not to blame him later on if such an incident takes place. Furthermore, he tagged Ricky Ponting in his post. Towards the end of his tweet, the off-spinner mentioned that he and Aaron Finch are good mates.

Here is an interesting take on this entire incident:
