Nine men were booked for the attempted murder of a 40-year-old woman, her son, and her husband on Sunday, March 21, for telling them to not play cricket in front of her house. Investigations are currently underway after the incident took place in the Ramtekdi area of Hadapsar. The police are still on the lookout for the men.

Earlier, the husband of the woman went to the house of one of the men to complain to his parents about playing cricket in the locality. The accused men, thereafter, planned to hit back at the family. The men approached the family near the Sunil Cycle Mart in Ramtekdi.

Tempers flew and the men hit them with stumps, wooden rods, bricks, and bats and also threw kicks and punches at them. As per a report in Hindustan Times, the family was left injured and was rushed to the nearby hospital on an immediate basis. The complainant also lost her gold ring after being attacked.

A case under Sections 307 (attempted murder), 504 (insult with an intention of provoking a breach of peace) and rioting, 336, 427, 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code along with Section 7(1) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act was registered at Wanowrie police station. Bholenath Ahivale, the sub-inspector at Wanowrie police station, is in charge of the case.

Not the first time when cricket and violence went hand in hand

The incident wasn’t the first when the game of cricket was marred with violence. Back on Saturday, March 20, a 41-year-old cricketer, Ahmed Basheer, went into concussion after being punched by an opposition player during a community cricket match at the Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga in Auckland.

Basheer had called out a player, saying, “please don’t cheat” after which the incident broke out. “He held my neck in both hands, I tried to escape and the next minute he punched me,” Basheer was quoted as saying in stuff.co.nz.

A spokesperson mentioned that no arrests have been made until now and investigations are taking place. Due to the incident, Basheer also lost between $200 and $300, the amount he could have earned through his part-time work of taxi driving.
