After being the heartbeat of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side for close to four to five years in the Indian Premier League (IPL), David Warner experienced one of the worst seasons ever for the franchise in the 14th edition of IPL. The southpaw consistently scored over 500 runs in the last three seasons for SRH and was also their captain when the side were crowned champions in the year 2016.

The year 2021, though, brought about Warner’s downfall and he not only was removed from captaincy but he was also dropped from the playing XI. Midway through the tournament, the southpaw was replaced by Kane Williamson against Rajasthan Royals. This move certainly didn’t go well with the experts and fans who questioned the management for dropping a player of Warner’s stature in the playing XI

Curious to know why the former SRH captain was removed from leadership, a fan had asked the same question on social media. “Who’s idea was it to drop you?” the fan asked Warner. The 34-year-old being the selfless team man didn’t reveal the name of the person and answered the question with some laughing emojis.

Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to consistently win in the first of IPL 2021

SRH is considered one of the most consistent teams in the IPL. The orange franchise has qualified for the playoffs each year since 2016 and were always the side that used to punch above its weight. But, things changed drastically in 2021, when they won a sole match from seven games before the tournament came to a grinding halt on May 04 due to rising cases in the bio-bubble.

Warner too had a mediocre run in the tournament and the team selections made huge headlines, rather than the performance on the field. In the initial few games, Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar were persisted by the management, even though the duo failed to get going in the league. After a few games, the former was dropped due to a poor strike rate and Warner felt Pandey should have been given a longer rope. The management and Warner, it seemed, didn’t agree and he was stripped off from captaincy which never was expected.
