Former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a figure who is worshipped all over India. In the Vijay Hazare trophy semi-final between Jharkhand and Bengal, an incident took place which once again notified the craziness of the people of the country to carry for the world cup winning captain.
Dhoni was getting back to the crease when two fans came down to the pitch and touched his feet. The umpire immediately signalled the two of them to leave the field but the incident took the right-handed batsman by shock. The fans left the field after the umpire had asked them to but the incident surely describes the amount of love the country has for the game of cricket and the players.
The big hitter is no stranger to this kind of incidents as he had faced a similar situation in the previous stage of the Vijay Hazare trophy itself. In the quarterfinals, Dhoni faced one of his fans who not only touched his feet but got his autograph on a small sheet of paper which he had carried with him onto the field.
In January, during a match between India A and England a similar incident took place when a fan rushed onto the field and touched the captain’s feet much to his surprise. The skipper then showed a nice gesture by shaking the hand of the fan before the security personnel took him away.
In the semi-final Dhoni made a valiant effort to see his team in the final as he made 70 runs chasing a huge score of 329. But Dhoni’s efforts were not enough as Jharkhand fell short by 41 runs as both Bengal openers Shreevats Goswami and Abhimanyu Easwaran struck brilliant tons. Manoj Tiwary also played a brilliant innings for Bengal as he managed 75 runs of just 49 balls.
