There is absolutely no denying the fact that the just-concluded edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has lifted the mood of the entire cricketing fraternity in these tough times of the pandemic. Cricket fans across the country as well as other parts of the world were starved of proper cricket action for months due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Cricket action around the world had come to a halt in March. International cricket finally resumed in July when England hosted West Indies before playing against Ireland, Pakistan as well as Australia. During the same time, Caribbean Premier League took place too. But it won’t be wrong to say that the IPL was the tournament that lifted the mood of the cricket world.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held between March and May but had to be postponed due to the obvious reasons. The BCCI, however, never gave up on its desire to host the competition and eventually succeeded. The Indian cricket board overcame several setbacks and finally agreed to host IPL 2020 in the UAE.

From logistics, creating bio-bubbles, extensive testing to arranging chartered flights from all around the world, the BCCI and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) did all they could to ensure that the tournament takes place smoothly and succeeded in it. IPL 2020 garnered unprecedented and record viewership as fans from around the world watched it.

IPL 2020 finally came to an end this week with the final between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals in Dubai. The game brought to an end the two months of thrilling action on the field. Mumbai Indians thrashed Delhi Capitals by five wickets in the title-decider to clinch their fifth title and also became just the second team after Chennai Super Kings to defend the title.
