Cricketers from across the globe took to Twitter to wish their Indian fans on the special occasion of Diwali on Sunday (October 27). The likes of Chris Gayle, Wahab Riaz, Michael Clarke and several other overseas cricketers led the wishes before the Indian contingent also followed suit. But while most of the cricketers received greetings in reply, India fast-bowler Ishant Sharma did not.

Just like his fellow cricketers, Ishant Sharma also took to Twitter as well as Instagram to wish his thousands of followers. The lanky fast-bowler posted a group photo of his family as he was accompanied by his wife and his parents. Posting the picture, the veteran pacer wrote, “Wishing everyone a very Happy and a safe Diwali from us to you!”

It was all going well for the bowler before some eagle-eyed fans noticed an interesting photo on the wall. The photo was a portrait of controversial god-man Asaram Bapu. Asaram is a self-proclaimed cult leader and had established over 400 ashrams in India and abroad. But in April last year, he was found guilty of rape of a minor girl and is currently serving life imprisonment for the se*ual assault in Jodhpur.

Unsurprisingly, the fans were quick to slam Ishant Sharma for the photo and some also asked him to remove the tweet. With the matter getting out of hands, the India star quickly removed the tweet before posting a cropped photo on Instagram. As far as Twitter was concerned, he posted a simple message for his followers, tweeting:

Ishant Sharma’s revival

Ishant Sharma, nonetheless, is having a good time on the field. The pacer has finally managed to shed the tag of inconsistent and has performed really well in the last couple of years. He has not looked back since impressing on the tour of South Africa last year. Since 2018, Ishant has picked up 52 wickets in just 13 Tests at an outstanding average of 19.78.

Ishant’s average in this period is better than the likes of Kagiso Rabada, James Anderson, Trent Boult, and Stuart Broad. Recently, he impressed with the bat too. On the tour of West Indies, Ishant showed remarkable composure with the willow and ended up scoring a fine fighting fifty too.
