Wellington Firebirds had played against Northern Districts in their last game, where Northern Knights won the toss and elected to field. With the middle order taking responsibility and scoring the bulk of the runs, Wellington did a good in posting 270 runs. Northern Districts just could not keep it going, with all their batters failing to score and could only muster 191. Although not as good as the first inning, Wellington still managed to score a fighting 224. Keeping their first innings in mind, Northern Districts were in trouble with such a target, but surprisingly, they did a good job, and the match ended in a draw.
