Central Stags will lock horns with Canterbury Kings in the 5th match of the Ford Trophy 2023 at the Pukekura Park in New Plymouth on November 29. Both these teams have played one match each so far in the tournament where Canterbury Kings were the winner in their game and secured the first rank in the table, while Central Stags lost it and are in fourth place.
Central Stags last played against Northern Districts, where Northern Districts won the toss and elected to bat. The decision did not seem to be a good one as they had already lost three wickets by the time they had scored 50 runs. They kept losing wickets until the pair of Jeet Raval and Brett Hampton stitched an important partnership, which took them to a good total of 272 runs. Districts lost an early wicket but had good partnerships to follow. However, in the middle overs, bowlers from Centra Stags did a wonderful job of pulling things back as they won the game by 28 runs.
Canterbury Kings squared off against Wellington Firebirds in their last game, where Wellington Firebirds won the toss and elected to bowl. Being put to bat, the Kings did not start well and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Mitchell Hay and Angus McKenzie were the only two players to score fifties, which led the team to a respectful total of 220 runs. After losing one wicket early, the Firebirds had a brilliant partnership for the second wicket and were right on track, but as soon as it broke, the hell went loose on them as they were bowled out for just 157, losing the game by 63 runs.
