Uttar Pradesh had played off against Punjab in their last encounter, where Uttar Pradesh won the toss and elected to bat. The decision did not prove to be too great for them as they started meekly. Rinku Singh was the lone batter to have looked good on the pitch, having scored 79 runs. The team could only post a total of 147 runs by the end of the innings. Punjab lost the first wicket early but did not look back as they walked to victory easily. They won the match by nine wickets with almost five overs to spare.
