Kenya will face Rwanda in the 1st match of the T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023 on Wednesday (November 22) at the United Cricket Club Ground in Windhoek. Rwanda and Kenya have played four T20I matches against each other so far, and Kenya have all these matches. The winner and the runner-up from this tournament will participate in the T20 World Cup next year. The six teams that are a part of this event are Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe and Namibia have directly qualified for this tournament as they were a part of the 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup. Uganda played in the T20 World Cup Global Qualifier B 2022 and received a direct qualification. Uganda had won just one out of their three league stage game in that event.

Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Nigeria are here after competing in two sub-regional qualifiers. Kenya and Rwanda finished in the top places in Qualifier A, while Tanzania and Nigeria finished in the first two positions in Qualifier B. Rwanda Cricket Association hosted these qualifiers from November 17 to December 9 last year.

Kenya last played in the Africa Continental Cup 2023 in June. They won six out of nine matches in the tournament and went on to play in the finals against Uganda. Uganda made 125 runs while batting first in 20 overs. Kenya, in reply, could reach only 124 runs at the end of the 20th over mark and lost the match by one run.

Rwanda were also a part of the Africa Continental Cup and could win only two out of nine games. Rwanda played the final of the West Africa Trophy 2023 and lost the match by 17 runs. They failed to reach the target of 104 runs.
