Malawi will take on Uganda in the fifth match of the Africa Cricket Association T20I Cup 2023 on Wednesday (December 13) at Willowmoore Park in Benoni. It will be the first match of the tournament for Malawi, while Uganda have already played a game.

Malawi last played a T20I game in the Southern Africa Cup 2023 in May this year. They won three out of four matches and finished in second place in the points tally. It will be their second game T20I game against Uganda. Both teams faced each other in the Men's T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group A in 2021. Uganda won that game by 10 wickets after chasing down the target of 99 runs in 11 overs. Simon Ssesazi scored an unbeaten 62 runs off 39 deliveries and won the Player of the Match award.

Uganda lost their first game of the tournament against Rwanda by a mere margin of two runs. Rwanda were bundled out for 115 runs, and only one batter managed to touch the 20-run mark. Henry Ssenyondo was the pick of the bowlers for Uganda as he picked three wickets for 12 runs in four overs. Uganda had a decent start to their chase, and the openers added 45 runs for the first wicket. But they kept on losing wickets and ultimately failed to cross the line.
