Melbourne Renegades (REN) will face Perth Scorchers (SCO) in the fourth match of the Big Bash League 2023-24 on Sunday (December 10) at the Simonds Stadium in Geelong. Renegades will be playing their second game of the season, while this will be Scorchers’ first match.
Renegades faced Sydney Sixers in their opening game and elected to bowl after winning the toss. Steven Smith opened the innings for the Sixers and played a fine knock of 61 runs off 42 deliveries. Moises Henriques also made a significant contribution of 40 runs off 32 deliveries. Sixers posted a total of 175 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Adam Zampa and Will Sutherland took two wickets each. Renegades lost their first three wickets for just 39 runs in the Powerplay. Jake Fraser-McGurk did really well to stabilise the innings but was dismissed after scoring 48 runs off 24 deliveries. Aaron Finch also played a crucial role in the middle order with a knock of 33 runs off 31 deliveries. Sutherland remained unbeaten on 51 runs off 30 deliveries, but Renegades fell short of the target by eight runs.
Scorchers won six out of 14 matches last season and finished in fifth position in the points tally. Ashton Turner will lead the Scorchers again this year, while Josh Inglis will serve as his deputy. Zak Crawley, Laurie Evans, and Sam Whiteman have been added to the squad this year. Mitchell Marsh, who missed the last season after undergoing ankle surgery, has been retained for this season.
