South Africa won the opening match by just 27 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The experienced batter Rassie van der Dussen scored 111 offf 117 and David Miller smashed fifty to help the Porteas score 298/7 while batting first. England all-rounder Sam Curran took three wickets but the returning Jofra Archers struggled.

But South African bowlers made a late comeback to bowl out England on 271 runs to secure a crucial win. Speedster Anrich Nortje took four wickets and returning pacer Sisanda Magala took three wickets to guide South Africa to a 27-run win.
