Melbourne Stars (STA) will take on Perth Scorchers (SCO) in the 7th match of the BBL 2023-24 on Wednesday (December 13) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It will be the second game of the season for both teams, and they will be looking for a different result than the first outing.

Stars faced Brisbane Heat in their first game and elected to bowl after winning the toss. Colin Munro remained unbeaten on 99 runs off 61 deliveries and missed his second BBL century. He helped the Heat post a total of 214 runs for the loss of three wickets. Joel Paris, Glenn Maxwell, and Nathan Coulter-Nile took one wicket each. Only three batters managed to make a double-digit score for the Stars, and Hilton Cartwright was the highest-scorer with 33 runs off 16 deliveries. Stars were bundled out for 111 runs in 15.1 overs and lost the match by 103 runs.

Scorchers’ last game against Melbourne Renegades was abandoned due to pitch conditions. Renegades won the toss and elected to bowl here. Scorchers could make 30 runs for the loss of two wickets in 6.5 overs before the match officials decided to call off this game. The pitch had a damp area, which was producing an awkward bounce, and the umpires felt the pitch was unplayable.

Glenn Maxwell and Nathan Coulter-Nile have been ruled out of this game after sustaining injuries in the opening game. Maxwell injured his forearm muscle, while Coulter-Nile had a calf injury. Joe Burns and Olly Stone have not been named in the 15-man squad by the Stars. Marcus Stoinis will lead the Stars in Maxwell's absence.
