The 27th match of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, 2023 will witness Thunder locking horns with Southern Vipers at the Trafalgar Road Ground in Southport July 07. Thunder haven’t won any of their five games till now, and are at the last position on the table. Meanwhile Southern Vipers have won two matches from the six games they’ve played, and are fourth in the rankings. Clearly Vipers look in the better form, but Thunder can be a surprise in the match.
Thunder had to taste defeat in their last match against Central Sparks, where Thunder won the toss and elected to bowl. Sparks opened very poorly and lost the wickets early, but the middle order batters A Freeborn and A Campbell scored 67 and 68 respectively, and took the team’s score to 233 with the loss of ten wickets. T Norris scalped four wickets, M Gaur and L Jackson got two wickets each, and N Dattani took one wicket. When Thunder began their chase, they lost a wicket very early too, but the opener S Smale hit a massive 94 runs, and took the team forward. Other smaller contributions here and there led the team to score 204. They too lost the wickets regularly. Eventually Thunder lost the match by 29 runs.
Southern Vipers had played against Sunrisers in their last encounter, where Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat. The team opened well, with J Grewcock scoring their highest 76 runs. The wickets kept falling here and there, but due to smaller but important contribution by the other players, the team managed to score 254 with the loss of ten wickets. G Elwis got three wickets, with M Taylor and A Lee picking two wickets each, and A Monaghan, M Sturge and N Harman scalping one wicket each. When Vipers came to bat, their opening was weak, but E Windsor gave the much needed push to the team by scoring 84 runs. Other players tried to support her but due to the constant falling of wickets, the team got all out on 226 runs, and thereby lost the match by 28 runs.
