Afghanistan had a decent start to the chase and had several good partnerships in their innings. Half-centuries from Ibrahim Zadran and Karim Janat ensured Afghanistan won the match by six wickets.

New Zealand had played against Pakistan in their last encounter, where New Zealand had won the toss and elected to field. Pakistan made a brilliant start by having an opening stand of 51 runs. They lost three wickets on the trot, but a fantastic fourth-wicket partnership did not let them lose track. They finished with a massive total of 193 runs on the board. On the other hand, New Zealand had not started well and had already lost three wickets for a score of 26. Mark Chapman did not let go of the challenge and made a brilliant century which not just brought them back on track and won them the game by six wickets.
